Green Energy Tracker

Renewable energy production has been rapidly growing in the US in recent years. Energy consumers have opportunities to learn about renewable energy, but they do not have access to data about the actual renewable energy production or usage. Access to such data may help create awareness of when renewable energy is most available to consumers and when is the peak of energy usage occurs in general. (More details about application examples can be found in the "Killer Idea" submittal). Such awareness can significantly influence consumer behavior and their energy usage patterns.

Proposed data sets:

1. Basic data set

- The percentage of renewable energy in the system will be calculated per hour or for shorter intervals (30, 15, 5 minutes), if required.

- Data shall be available at least the next day or sooner, if possible.

- The renewable energy percentage can be calculated for each ISO/RTO or at the electric distribution utility level.

Note: Utility ID and BA Code sourced from EIA-861 are an example.

If Utility ID is zero, then data refers to BA Code and vice versa; if BA Code is zero, then Utility ID shall contain valid data.

2. Standard data set

- Total load in the system (ISO/RTO, DUs) for measured intervals.

- Renewable energy generation divided into different types of generation such as solar, wind, geothermal, hydro, etc.

3. Advanced data set

- Basic and standard data is included in this set.

- Prediction for load and renewable generation is presented for specific periods of time (1, 12, 24 hours).

4. Detailed data set

- This data set shall include net metering renewable generation from distribution utilities. Most likely this data can be available the next day because time is needed to collect data over AMI (Advanced Meter Infrastructure) and to clean data with MDM (Meter Data Management).

California ISO is already presenting a renewable energy contribution on a daily basis with hourly data intervals, however, their data format is not convenient for an automated data import.
